10 Tips for Training Your New Puppy

August 16, 2016 By admin

A well trained dog is loved by every dog lover. It can be made possible if you start dog training when he was just a puppy. It will help not only in controlling your loved pet but also spare you from facing various unwanted situations like chewing of your shoes or cleaning up throughout the house etc. Some tips are provided here under to help you in training your new puppy.

1. Do not be cruel while teaching discipline:
A puppy cannot so much wrong things that need your cruelty. A new puppy should be treated like a new member of your family. Whatever he does is just to make you happy or to get your attention. But if he does something wrong then you should stop him with a bold NO during his act or ignore him which will convey him that his act was not acceptable to you.

2. Train patiently:
While training your new puppy you should keep in mind that you are training a new baby who actually does not know much about you and your home. You should be patient while training him even if you have to face some accidental situations in the beginning.

3. Train consistently:
Your training pattern should be consistent otherwise your puppy may get confused if you train different things every day as dogs usually forget what they have learnt earlier.

4. Train confidently:
You should be confident while holding the leash of your new puppy or commanding him so that he may know his trainer from the very beginning.

5. Offer treats:
Whenever your puppy does some good work or activity like following your harder commands or doing back flips then you should offer him some treat. It will encourage him to listen to your command and obey it.

6. Replace the things:
If your new puppy tries to chew some wrong things like your shoes etc. then you should stop him with a firm NO command and replace it with a chewable thing. You should keep in mind that he is ignorant to lots of things at this stage.

7. Proper handling of the leash:
The leash should not be held tightly while taking him out as he should not feel uncomfortable. But initially it should be held tightly to make your puppy used to it.

8. Confine:
While house training your new puppy confining him in a specific room or crate can be a good option for you especially when you are not around to keep an eye on him. It can help in teaching the puppy how to keep is personal space clean by restraining his bladder.

9. Socialize your pooch:
You should let your puppy meet other similar dogs or a class of puppies so the he can socialize with them and learn lots of things from his fellows as well as instructors.

10. Discourage Biting:
You should discourage biting of your new puppy from the very beginning even if his cute activities do not hurt you. His bites can hurt you when he becomes full dog.
